Korean Barbecue Sauce:

  • 180 ml water
  • 80 ml soy sauce
  • 60 ml maple syrup
  • 60 ml tomato paste
  • 30 g gochujang (Korean red chili paste)
  • Two garlic cloves, chopped
  • 10 gr grated ginger
  • Sesame oil

Tempeh Filling:

  • 120 gr diced tempeh
  • One red bell pepper, sliced
  • Sliced onion
  • A small cup of chopped scallions
  • A pinch of sesame seeds
  • Sesame oil

For the Wraps:

  • Four wheat tortillas
  • Four slices of lettuce leaves
  • One avocado, sliced
  • Vegan kimchi (optional)


1Prepare a saucepan over medium heat and cook all the Korean sauce ingredients until well combined. After that, lower the heat and make it simmer for around 10 minutes. If the sauce is too thick then you, can add enough water to liquefy the thick sauce.

2Next, heat a large skillet with sesame oil over medium heat. Place the diced tempeh and cook for 5 minutes or until it turns brown at the bottom. Then, flip the tempeh and wait until the upper side of the tempeh turns brown too. After that, make it into high heat and cook the bell pepper and onion altogether to the skillet for about 2 minutes.

3Lower the heat then pour the Korean sauce into the tempeh mixture. Cook and stir until the mixture combined or until the sauce cover up the tempeh and other ingredients. After well cooked, turn off the stove and add the scallions and sesame seeds and stir well.

4In a large plate, put a slice of wheat tortilla and give a slice of lettuce leaves, sliced avocados, kimchi and the tempeh mixture. Warp the two sides of tortilla and roll it over. Make sure that all the fillings are finely wrapped with the tortilla. Do the same thing with the remaining filling and tortillas.
