How to make Greek Meatballs

The recipe for Greek meatballs is easy to follow, and the process consists of two different ways. First, you may fry them conventionally with a frying pan or simply bake it in the oven. For further steps, the whole recipe will be explained below:

  • ½ small cup red onion, grated
  • 500g ground beef or lamb
  • 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
  • A cup of breadcrumbs
  • One large egg
  • 32 g of chopped fresh parsley
  • Six chopped mint leaves
  • A pinch of dried oregano
  • Three tablespoons of olive oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • 64 g white flour
  • Tzatziki (Note 5) or Greek yogurt

1Put the grated onions, grounded beef, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, parsley and mint leaves, dried oregano, olive oil, salt and pepper in a large bowl and mix well these ingredients. It would be better if you mix it with your hands for around few minutes.

2You can refrigerate the ingredients for around an hour to make them easier to roll and rounded. However, this is optional. You can also use a heaped tablespoon to shape the meat combination into rounds. Then, roll it out into around 32 into 35 meatballs.

3Place and heat the olive oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Make sure the oil covers the surface of the pan. While waiting for the oil, you can mix the meatballs with the flour. After the oil boiled, cook the meatballs until it turns to brown.

4After cooking the meatballs, drain the oil and place them onto a plate and do the rest as the same. If you want to bake it, you need to spray the olive oil into the meatballs and bake it for 20 minutes in 180-celsius degree. Frying the meatball can make them taste much juicer rather than baking it in the oven.

5When the meatballs are ready, you can serve them in two ways. First, you can eat it together with pita bread or the Greek yogurt sauce which is Tzatziki sauce. Meanwhile, the second option is to serve these Greek meatballs at dinner time with a Greek salad.

There are many variations to make Greek meatballs, and you also can eat it with other food based on your favorite ones. Thus, it will be a perfect and healthy menu for you.
